Womens cricket in South Africa was strong in the 1970s and 80s, but the game, and the Association governing it, had become defunct. It was the foresight and commitment of the United Cricket Board of South Africa that sparked a resurgence of Womens cricket. The UCBSA ran a successful inaugural WomensGirls Tournament from 10 to 16 December 1995, and on Saturday 16 December 1995, during that Tournament, it was resolved that the current South Africa Womens Cricket Association be formed. The Founding Member Provinces of the new Association were Natal, Northern Transvaal now Northerns, Transvaal now Gauteng and Western Province, represented by Colleen Roberts, Peter Van Zyl, Charmaine Van Zyl, Judie Abell Natal, Katrien Van Rooyen, Russell Wilson N Tvl, W H Skog Tvl, Rodney Austen, and Kim Price WP.
